The Rotary Club of Las Cruces Rio Grande Club (#1310) is an active group of men and women who meet at 11:45 a.m. every Tuesday year round at the Best Western Mesilla Valley Inn in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Click here to read about our club history.
We are a growing club (currently more than 60 members) who enjoy each other's company and participate enthusiastically in club business. We publish an award-winning monthly newsletter, Rio Report, and look forward each week to invited speakers who share information about Rotary and many local, state and national topics. We encourage members to take active roles in club leadership and in service projects that benefit our community. We also sponsor social activities and offer opportunities for members to volunteer their services. We are committed to Rotary's 4-Way Test.
SERVICE ABOVE SELF
The club conducts several fund raising activities each year to support a variety of service projects:
- We support the District Rotary Youth Leadership Ambassador (RYLA) program which sends local juniors and seniors to leadership camp near Taos each summer.
- Each May Rio Grande Rotary runs a huge Yard Sale benefiting Mesilla Valley Hospice.
- We participate in the Keep Las Cruces Beautiful campaign by maintaining a median section on Avenida de Mesilla.
- We support Dress-A-Child every November and hold an annual Silent Auction to raise funds for it.
- We sponsor a Student Rotarian of the Month program from September to May through which outstanding seniors from four local high schools attend weekly meetings as guests of Rio Grande Rotary, enabling us to meet the leaders of tomorrow.
- We have an ongoing international relationship with the Rotary Club in Chihuahua, Mexico. Both clubs are working with an orphanage outside the city of Chihuahua. In 1999 we sent them thirty twin beds, mattresses, box springs and linens. We plan to continue this joint project in the future.
